Mission Statement

“To develop human settlements into an equitable living environment where the community has access to a clean environment, health, education, housing, basic infrastructure and livelihood options irrespective of their social and economic status.”

CFSD Supports

CFSD supports an integrated development approach for the improvement of living conditions in the slums by convergence of various local initiatives, national and regional programmes in the fields of urban and rural environment, social and technical infrastructure, poverty alleviation, education and health. We strongly believe that for the success of any government programs for the urban poor; involving slum communities, especially woman, in the planning and implementation of sustainable slum improvement measures is a must . For a sustainable urban and rural development concept, CFSD is committed to facilitate participatory approach encompassing slum dwellers, villagers ,govt. organizations, NGO`s and the private sector.

CFSD Work

CFSD works on issues of land rights of urban slum dwellers in close coordination with the urban local bodies. Mapping the slums and conducting socio-economic surveys of slum dwellers, collecting their eligibility documents and submitting them to the government to process their sale deeds. Till date, CFSD has facilitated 10,000 pattas to slum dwellers living in the slums of Nagpur city

CFSD works extensively in the field of Environment. Under the “ Swacch Bharat Mission” Clean India campaign, CFSD works on municipal solid waste management. Creating awareness on waste segregation, home composting techniques, leaf composting, garbage burning and integrating waste pickers into the solid waste management system of the government is the focus. CFSD is a member of the “Nagpur City Hub” a sentinel group comprising various stakeholders concerned about Air pollution.

CFSD advocates for the right to clean air. CFSD is working on implementing the Air Action Plan under the National Clean Air program. Coordinating with the ULB, creating an awareness of the impact of Air pollution on the health of people through effective communication tools like the installing “lung billboard”, conducting various research programs to study the impact of air pollution like installing low-cost sensors in schools and monitoring the air quality and conducting research to study the impact of fly ash pollution and water pollution around the Thermal power plants (at Koradi and Khaparkheda) near Nagpur. CFSD also surveyed the use of chulhas in urban slums and the reach of the Pradhan Mantri ujwala yojana through a door-to-door survey in 1500 households to understand the air pollution being caused due to Biomass burning.

CFSD has been instrumental in enumerating the waste pickers and other informal sectors engaged in waste management and has also facilitated in providing them with ID cards from the Urban Local Body. CFSD is an active member of the “Alliance of Indian Waste Pickers” which works on advocating waste picker’s rights and well-being as they play a very important role in the circular and sustainable future.
